Tripura battles surge in dengue cases-182 positive cases reported

Tripura battles surge in dengue cases; 182 positive cases reported-- Tripura is facing a worrisome surge in dengue cases, with 182 positive cases reported as of August 3. The hardest-hit area is Dhanpur village, located in the Sepahijala district, where an inspection conducted by a medical team from Agartala Government Medical College revealed a concerning discovery. The Aedes mosquito, which carries the dengue virus, is breeding naturally in nearly every household within the village.

During a press conference, an Associate Professor from Agartala Government Medical College emphasized the urgent need to address the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes to reduce the number of dengue cases. He observed that water storage in open places has led to an increase in mosquito breeding. Additionally, Aedes mosquitoes were found breeding in rubber plantations as well.

The situation has evolved over the years, as dengue was initially affecting travelers from Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai when first reported in Tripura in 2015. Nevertheless, as a result of vector shifts and rapid urbanization, dengue mosquitoes have become widespread within the state.

The affected patients have been receiving treatment at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, with 32 of them admitted, and all are reported to be in stable condition. The Medical Superintendent of the hospital stated that patients from Dhanpur have been admitted to the Covid hospital building.

In total, Dhanpur has reported 158 positive cases of dengue, while other areas like Kanchanmala, Mohanpur, and Bamutia under the West District have reported around 24 cases.

In order to control the spread of the dengue virus, health authorities have escalated their efforts in the Dhanpur region by implementing increased door-to-door testing and setting up medical camps during the outbreak.
